Young Investigator Groups

Empowering young scientists

"Promoting young talent means promoting early idealistic and financial independence. The funding instrument 'Young Investigator Group' (YIG) starts already in the qualification phase of young scientists. The YIG gives me the opportunity to lead my own group at an early stage in my career, to conduct independent research and thus gain initial experience in the research apparatus," says group leader Dr.-Ing.

Dr. Luise Kärger has been head of the Young Investigator Group "Green Mobility - Weight-optimized vehicle structures through customized high-performance fiber composites" since 2013."

  • YIGs serve to promote young scientists, their early independence, and to strengthen the research profile of the KIT.
  • A Young Investigator Group receives an annual budget for personnel and material expenses.
  • Financial requirements: 80,000 EUR / year
  • Time frame: 4 years
