Sustainable urban development in and for Karlsruhe

The future of humanity lies in the cities (Kofi Annan) The sustainable development of our cities is one of the urgent challenges of the 21st century. The framework project Quartier Zukunft - Labor Stadt opens an experimental space in and for Karlsruhe in which promising technical and social innovations from KIT are implemented as well as project ideas from urban society. Based on the guidelines of sustainable development, the project works transdisciplinarily towards cross-fertilization and cooperation between science, politics, citizens, and private industry. In this network, sustainable solutions will be tested that will be exemplary in quality, number and density for other, especially European cities.

Dr. Oliver Parodi heads a multidisciplinary team that continuously develops the project and coordinates the various subprojects in the fields of energy, health, mobility, housing, social participation, education, environmental protection and life satisfaction: www.quartierzukunft.de
