Endowed Chair of Technical Cultural Studies

The endowed chair "Technikkulturwissenschaft" will combine approaches from Science and Technology Studies, History of Technology and Environment and Cultural Studies to investigate the interactions between technology, society, culture and environment.

The endowed professorship "Technikkulturwissenschaft" is assigned to the Institute for Technology Futures (ITZ) / Institute for History at the KIT Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, which was newly founded in April 2017. The head professor Dr. Heike Weber, who took up the professorship in June 2017, conducts research in the fields of the history of technology and the environment as well as technology in everyday life and conducts research projects on the history of waste and recycling or on product lifetimes in the 20th century, among others.

The endowed professorship is funded with the kind support of the founder Stefan Quandt for a period of 5 years. The KIT Foundation sincerely thanks Mr. Quandt for his commitment!
